Interpretation

Interpretation is an instantaneous oral translation, in which two classes are distinguished: consecutive and simultaneous interpretation.

    • Consecutive interpretation: consists of reproducing the speech of the speaker in the target language. With this purpose, the interpreter listens to the message, takes notes and immediately after the speaker has spoken, he/she transmits it as if he/she were the one to transmit the speech.
    • Simultaneous interpretation: consists of the instantaneous reformulation of the speaker’s speech. In this case, the interpreter is in a booth, from where he/she receives the speaker’s message, then he/she reformulates it and transmits it at the same time in the target language using a microphone.

The rates for interpretation services depend on the duration of the event.

Editing and Correction

We edit and correct your text for it to comply with publication requirements.

Editing a text consists of shaping the content of a document, the use of language and its structure. To do that, we must analyse the way in which we communicate with the reader. We make sure that the text transmits the tone and emotions that it intends to convey, that the words are accurate and that the information is correct and precise. Editing a text is a collaborative task that we must carry out together with the author. In general, errors or opportunities for improvement that the editor has found are discussed and analysed by both editor and author before rewriting or making the necessary modifications.

Correction of the text is the stage following editing in which technical errors related to the use of the language are corrected. During this stage not only the grammar, orthography, orthotypography and syntax of the text are corrected, but the proof-reader/editor also deals with the use of numbering, typography, structure and syllabic separation, discrepancies and the formation of sentences.

FAQs

Do you need an official or sworn translation?

In accordance with Exempt Resolution No. 2254, dated October 20th, 2010, the Chilean Ministry of Public Relations will only carry out translations related to the processing of extraditions.

In Chile, unlike other countries, there is no such figure as a “public translator”, so that any translator who is affiliated with COTICH (Chilean Association of Translators and Interpreters) is entitled to make a sworn translation by giving a statement before a Notary Public.

The client should consult with the institution of the foreign country about the possibility of delivering a sworn translation instead of an official one.

What is the difference between translating and interpreting?

Even though translation and interpretation are professions that are closely related, they are very different.

The main difference between a translator and an interpreter is that one writes and the other speaks.

If you need to translate a text, a letter, an email, your website, a certificate, etc., you need a translator. The translator works with written texts, either on paper or in digital format.

On the other hand, if you need someone to speak for you or for a speaker in another language (whether in a talk, a conference, a seminar, etc.), what you need is an interpreter. The interpreter orally translates both written texts and spoken language.

What is the cost of a translation?

To estimate the cost of a translation, we take into consideration the following factors:

● Urgency of the translation (business/non-business days)
● Length of the text (either counted by word or by the number of pages)
● Complexity or specialization of the text (technical vocabulary)
● Format of de document (ideally, it must be in Word format, but we can work in other formats, such as pdf, ppt, etc.)

It is important to note that:

We can offer discounts for large volume translations.

There is no minimum or maximum number of words or pages required to be translated.

What is the cost of an interpretation?

The cost of an interpretation is calculated based on the following factors:

● If a consecutive or simultaneous interpretation is required
● Duration of the interpretation working day
● Event schedule (a.m/p.m.)
● The complexity/specialization of the subject

We can offer discounts when events are extended for several days.
